Reflection
To separate the two great commandments is a tragedy and goes clean contrary to the gospel. Yet unfortunately this often happens. Those who have faith often have no love, and those who love often have no faith. Thus the gospel has been torn in two. Jesus spoke of two great commandments. The first—that we should love God. The second—that we should love out neighbour. He didn’t say they were the same thing, but that they are like two sides of the one coin. If we want the total gospel we must have both. He himself showed us how to do this.
Youth Sunday Celebration 22 November
Join us at LACE for our Youth Sunday Celebration, hosted by the fabulous One Hope Project, with guest speakers exploring the theme “Take Courage, I Have Overcome the World.” Workshops will focus on the Courage to Listen, Pray and Act.
The day runs from 10am, concluding with Mass with Archbishop John Sherrington at 5pm. There will also be a marketplace showcasing groups and opportunities to get involved with.
The event is free and open to all secondary school young people. Please bring a packed lunch. Young people must book a ticket and attend with a chaplain, teacher, youth leader or catechist. Appropriate adult -to-young-person ratios apply, and parental consent is required.
Safeguarding and DBS
The Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS) are doing an audit of the Safeguarding Provision in the Diocese. It means each Parish has to update the DBS of all the Parish members who are working in some capacity for them. In our Parish, most of our DBS’s are out of date and need to be renewed, involving the usual paperwork and three forms of identification. We are attempting to get some of the Diocesan Safeguarding personnel to do a clinic in the Parish where they will help us to fill in applications and check identities. We will let you know when we get it organised.
